SCIENTIST, STORYTELLER, TRAINER & FACILITATOR

Hi there!
I’m Dr David Kirk (but you can call me Dave).

I’ve followed my passion for helping people through my research, industry, and science communication careers over the past two decades.

Now, I’m using my diverse background to help people achieve their communication goals in science and tech.

MY STORY

Growing up, I was a classic nerdy kid.
I collected rocks. I read encyclopedias. I asked A METRIC TON of questions.

And, after becoming fascinated by Jurassic Park, I became a biologist.

While writing up my PhD thesis on the molecular pathways behind bacterial spore formation, I studied journalism at night.

That experience opened my eyes to completely different approaches to factual communication, research, and storytelling that paled in comparison to restriction and density of academic writing.

With a journalism feather in my science hat, I joined a start-up therapeutics company as both a Senior Scientist and de facto Head of Communications.

But, after a few years, I realised I preferred talking about science to doing it. So, I set out as a freelancer – working partly as a journalist and partly as a communications specialist.

Working with companies, communication agencies, editors, and communities, I learned there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to communicating complex scientific topics, but coaching and communication frameworks help.

Now, I’m offering my coaching and communication methods to help you achieve your goals – whether that’s in becoming a better communicator or helping you get your message across.
